DON'T FORGET TO TAKE A PEN.
The Old Bog Road used to be a very busy place at certain times of
the year when a good number of men from the town would spend days
out there help each other cutting and preparing the turf for the
winter.
Since the bogs were decommissioned these days it is all but
abandoned, only really frequented by the rare walker or fisherman.
Our family use it very often as a good length child friendly walk
to while away an afternoon.
This is a good length walk and could be done from the town but
would take the best part of an hour.
It is buggy friendly all the way though the usual precautions need
to be taken at the end as the river is quite fast flowing at this
point.
There is a picnic bench at the end but it is not particularly well
maintained. However, there are plenty of rocks and grassy areas on
which to sit to take some refreshment if you wish but please
remember to take all litter with you when you leave. (CITO)
You could follow the river from the bridge just outside town on the
Portnoo Road to reach the cache but I find the easiest and nicest
way to approach the cache is from the waypointed entrance (remember
to close the gate after you if you don't use the stile).
The cache is a magnetic nano. You will need to take a pen with
you.
