Geocache Description:

Hidden just off the trail, this is part of a series of caches hidden on the recently constructed "Havey Trail" of the Wolfville Watershed Nature Preserve.
Congrats to Arctic Dogteam on FTF!!!

Note that there is a well nearby. It isn't necessary to go more than 2m off the trail.

This is part of a series of hides on the Havey Trail in the Wolfville Watershed Preserve, land protected by Nova Scotia Nature Trust. Cache is hidden with permission of the town of Wolfville and NSNT, in accordance with their Geocaching policy.

Parts of the Havey Trail are quite rugged. However, the terrain on this cache is fairly easy going, provided you take the most direct route from the parking area. Although the map may suggest this is a park 'n grab, the NSNT land is foot-traffic only.

This cache is located near the foundation of what was once Havey House. That's all I know (but would like to find out more).

Located within the Gaspereau River Watershed on the South Mountain and featuring spectacular views of the Gaspereau Valley, the Minas Basin and Cape Blomidon, the 605 acre Wolfville Watershed Nature Preserve is home to many exceptional natural features. The property was the original water supply for the Town of Wolfville and it still serves as a back-up water supply source. This role has historically provided a level of protection that ensured the outstanding ecological qualities of the property were maintained.

I am also please to provide the following information from NSNT:

This cache is on property protected by the Nova Scotia Nature Trust. The Nature Trust is a nature conservation organization founded in 1994 with the goal of preserving Nova Scotia’s last best wild places on privately owned lands. To find out more about the Nova Scotia Nature Trust please visit our website www.nsnt.ca. This property was protected by the Nature Trust in 2007 and was the first conservation easement signed on municipally owned land in Canada. The Wolfville Watershed Nature Preserve was protected for the unique ecosystems on the property including:
  • Old growth hemlock stands
  • Acadian forest
  • Mature wetland complex that is habitat to a rare bog orchid the Southern Twayblade
Please respect these conservation lands.
