Geocache Description:

Friday 18th May –
Sunday 20th May 2012

After the success of last year's event, we return to Trevaylor Caravan and Camping Park for another great weekend camping on Cornwall's stunning west coast. Trevaylor is situated within the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is a 10-minute walk from the coastal path which cuts through the St. Just Mining District World Heritage Site and is also declared a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to the wealth of wildlife that it supports.

The site is sandwiched between the Atlantic coast to the west and north and spectacular moorland to the south and east, making it perfect for walking. There are plenty of geocaches in the vicinity and more will be placed in the run up to the event. Land's End, the Tate St. Ives, the Minack Theatre, Mousehole, Newlyn, Penzance, St. Michael's Mount and loads of other tourist destinations are all within a 30-minute drive.

Non-campers

If you are unable to camp, but would still like to attend the event, non-campers are welcome on Saturday 19th May at 8:00pm in the campsite bar (the given coordinates) where there will be a quiz and a raffle as well as the opportunity to swap caching stories/trackables and enjoy a few drinks or even a meal.

Please add a "Will Attend" log to the cache listing to let us know that you're planning on coming. Please let us know how many of you are coming, if you are camping or not and which nights you are staying for (there is scope to extend your stay if you want to make it in to a week or a fortnight).
Don't forget to also book your pitch directly with the campsite.

The Red Billed Chough

The chough has been closely associated with Cornwall for several centuries, and even features on the county's crest. Changes in farming practice and persecution eventually led to the chough disappearing from all English counties, but choughs still remained in Cornwall long after they had left the rest of the country. In 2001 after a 50 year absence choughs returned to Cornwall and at least one breeding pair now resides on the cliffs near to the campsite.

The event takes place towards the end of the chough breeding season, and if you are lucky you should be able to watch the adults taking food back for their chicks. Please remember though that choughs are easily disturbed and should not be deliberately approached.
