Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a series of caches with a mythology theme, all created by students at The Riverside School in Lyndonville. We hope that you enjoy learning something about our favorite myths!

Myth: Cupid was the son of Aphrodite. When Cupid's mother became jealous of the princess Psyche, she ordered Cupid to make the princess fall in love with the vilest thing on earth. When Cupid was sneaking into Psyche's room to shoot her with the arrow, he accidentally scratched himself with an arrow and fell deeply in love with her. She wasn't able to look at him because he is a god and if she looked at him, he would shine like the sun and she would burn her face. He made sure she knew to never try to see him. Cupid visited her every night while she slept, speaking to her so she couldn't see him. She was incited by her sisters, who told her that Cupid was a monster, she tried to look at him and angered him. When he left, she looked all over the world for him until Zeus, king of the gods, gave her the gift of immortality so that they could be together. She became a goddess and they had a daughter named Hedone, meaning "pleasure."
