P4W Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

hamburking: Unfortunately, the cache is no longer accessible to the public. I'm sad to archive it, it was a personal favorite of mine...and the second one I've had to archive at this site (Escape from P4W was nearby).

Thank you to all 140 finders...I hope you had fun...and especially the 26 who gave a favorite point...I appreciate every one.

Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Prison for Women!

Opened in 1934, it was Canada's only federal prison for women. A prison riot in 1994 eventually led to its closing in 2000. It was sold to Queen's University in 2007 for $2.8 million. The building has been left vacant, but the university has cleaned up the grounds, put down grass, and planted lots of trees. It is a spooky sort of public park with lots of open space.

The high walls near GZ have a bad effect on GPS accuracy. But if you trust your geosenses, you will have no trouble finding the cache.

The PRISON MUSEUM is about 100m south of the cache. Entry is by donation (a coin will do), and the displays are well worth the visit. The museum gift shop is called "The Cache", but has no relation to this hide.

The entrance to (free) PARKING is off Sir John A MacDonald Blvd (southbound lane only), just north of King street, south of Union street. It is also a very short walk from the West Campus parking lot, north side of Union street. Also, a pleasant (and short) walk from nearby Portsmouth harbour, if you are travelling by boat.
