Geocache Description:

Cache placed in this Nature Reserve with kind permission of the Devon Wildlife Trust. NB the cache is not at the above co-ordinates but is within 1 mile. There is a parking waypoint for Stage 1.

The Old Sludge Beds Nature Reserve lies within the Exe Estuary and is sandwiched between the Exeter Ship Canal and the River Exe. The site supports a mosaic of wetland habitats, open water, freshwater reedbed and scrub, on land that was previously occupied by the sewage treatment works at Countess Wear. The reserve is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), Special Protection Area (SPA) and a RAMSAR Site. The nature reserve has good access with a path with boardwalks running through the site and linking on to the public right of way along the Exeter Ship Canal. Elevated water levels are maintained throughout the summer months so some sections of footpath may become waterlogged. Visitors are advised to wear stout walking boots. There are various ways to get to the area but first you need to find some information from a plaque at the Countess Wear River and Canal Bridge.

On the plaque at Stage 1 there is a date at the end of the first paragraph - A/B June CDEE.
Cache is hidden at N50 EC . E (B - A - C) A , W003 (B - E) D . (B - E) B (E - E)

Many thanks to the Devon Wildlife Trust for their help and co-operation.
