Geocache Description:

A cache and dash in the mining village of Troon. Plenty of nearby free parking. There is room for a few swaps. Please bring a pen.

You are looking for a traditional geocache pot containing a log and a couple of swaps. Marshall’s shaft is on the outskirts of the village of Troon. Being a mining village it seemed appropriate to place a cache in the vicinity of one of it’s engine houses.
Marshall’s shaft was built in 1881 as part of the South Condurrow Mine. It was a working mine shaft until 1896 when it closed due to decreases in the price of tin. There is a plaque on the engine house which explains that the 60 inch cylinder beam engine it housed was used to pump water out of the mine. This was moved to Wheal Grenville when the shaft closed and continued to be used there until 1920. In 1901 South Condurrow was renamed ‘King Edward Mine’ after Edward VII. The King Edward Mine museum is located nearby between Marshall’s shaft and Wheal Grenville.

Sorry but the cache is not wheelchair accessible.

Congratulations to Snortus for FTF, well done!
