Lost In The West Coast Woods Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

cameracowgirl: Well, it's been a good run for this cache, but I think that it's best that I archive it while I am busy studying up-island, as I won't be able to communicate with the landowner or neighbor/property manager while I'm gone. I am so glad that my caching buddy, bear cub mom, was the last one to find this cache, and was also able to make it her milestone 200th! [:D] Congratulations to her! I am honored [^] and I am going to miss her while I am away. Thank you everyone for finding this cache and exploring this little trail that Loweprofile and I played on when we were kids. Happy caching!

How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Please do NOT use the "trail" that is behind the mailboxes. That is private property and is not open to the public. Use the trailhead co-ordinates provided.

Large ammo can. Access is from a seldom-used path that is off Hutchinson Road (use the co-ordinates provided to find the trailhead). Please use the path and DO NOT bushwhack from the mailboxes as that is private property.

This cache contains everything a person would need (except the most useful thing--a knife--can't put that in a cache for safety reasons) should they get lost in the West Coast woods. Original cache contains:

FTF- Magnesium block with flint (perfect for starting a warm fire in the damp west coast weather)
STF- Mini first-aid kit (incase of boo-boo’s)
Mini-compass (gives you direction even when your GPS doesn’t)
4’ x 6’ plastic tarp (great for shelter in a downpour, or for collecting rainwater to drink)
Emergency foil blanket (to help keep you warm when it’s cold)
Whistle (for helping to alert the search and rescue crew, or for scaring off bears and cougars)
Mini-flashlight (useful for gathering firewood in the dark)
Keychain flashlight (clip it to a belt loop and it’s always handy in the middle of the night)
Emergency candles (for when the flashlight battery dies)
Mirror (for signaling at aircraft for help, or for using to apply lip gloss in case the search and rescue workers are handsome)

Know that these woods are private property but the land owners have allowed the public to use the trail for over 40 years, so please stick to it and be respectful. The path goes as far as the cache site and back. The other trail that goes ESE/WNW of the cache site is for use from a neighboring land owner as he does deadfall logging in this forest from time-to-time, so please stick to the public-use trail. Thank you.
