Geocache Description:

Cache at 'Flyin B Park'

A few weeks ago the city of Highlands Ranch opened up a brand new park in North West Highlands Ranch called 'Flyin B Park". In the year 1976 there is evidence of a ranch that had a small airport with two runways. Here are some links that talk about the history:

And here are some links that talks about the airport on the property: (visit link)

Since Highlands ranch was developed it appeared that some of this land was sold to Windcrest (the senior living community) some years ago which 'may' have caused the demise of the ranch and it's airport.

Park here:39.33.756 105.01.434

Any idea what this was? 39.33.737 & 105.01.399

Check out the bridge at: 39.33.740 & 105.01.493

Alternate parking at : 39.33.745 & 105.01.582

Mapquest lists the abandoned airport as NORTH of county line Rd. Google maps historic sattellite imagery does not show any airport at anywhere near this location so it's anybody's guess as to where the actual runways were. Do some internet detective work and see if you can actually figure out where the airport actually was. I have lived in the area for almost 30 years and don't remember ever seeing a small airport near this location. Kudo's for the first person actually showing me positive evidence such as a photo of where this 'Bowen #1 airport' was.

(09/06/11)OK, I'm starting to get an idea of where the two runways were. Thanks everybody for enlightening me. The first person who emails a photo of the old windsock deserves either a beer or a sandwich!! Your choice. I will make good!! I haven't been to the intersection of these two runways so I have no idea if the windsock still exists. Do NOT trespass!!--Greg--

On 10/8/16 I delivered a new box for the cache. Funny part is I never found the old cache. New cache is a large size metal camouflaged box that should hold up better to the elements. If you should happen to find the old box which is believed to be a Rubbermaid box, please discard it and transfer any good items to the new ammo box. Please let me know where the Rubbermaid box was found. Thanks --Greg--
