Ebenezer United Methodist Cemetery is located on Chancellor's Run
Road [MD
237] in Great Mills. The cemetery belongs to Lexington Park United
Methodist
Church and has been an active cemetery since ca. 1830 and is still
in use
today. It was the site of Ebenezer Methodist Episcopal Church,
first built
on the site in the 1820's. Ebenezer was closed after World War II
and its
congregation was merged with the that of the former Cedar Point M.
E. Church
[evicted from its home by the U. S. Navy to construct Patuxent
River Naval
Air Station]. The two older congregations merged with a new
WWII-era
congregation formed in Lexington Park to become Lexington Park
Community
Church (Methodist) now Lexington Park United Methodist
Church.
The Lexington Park congregation inherited the site of Ebenezer
Church & its
cemetery and Lexington Park UMC now uses that cemetery.
We have passed this place quite a few times and just love it.
Always wanted to place a cache here and thought why not our first
one.
Cache contains a TB and a couple GC along with a few other
trinkets.
