Geocache Description:

Another addition to the caches along the Rathdrum Mountain Trails. Park at the gate on Hidden Valley Road. Cache is a fairly short walk off main logging road. No trail to GZ, but no problem for this "senior" or my even more "senior" husband. Should be OK for all but the really little kids. Elevation: 2370'.

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge, there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass. When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water, and warm spring weather. Those old and frail animals are young again. Those who have been maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other. But there is one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on earth. So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up. The nose twitches, the ears are up, the eyes are staring, and this one suddenly runs from the group. You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again and again and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.

This cache is dedicated to our four-footed family members who frolic in the meadow just this side of the Rainbow Bridge – more than we have room to picture or mention here. It was somewhat inspired by “Spunky’s and Trouble’s Memorial Cache” (GC2249J) by Poke’Frog, and “Our Little Man Cache” (GC2DABD) by ShortBabyGoats. Photos of individualistic and clever Tina (1987-1997), tiny Midnight (1983-1999), calm and composed Terry (1985-1999), his love-bunny and super-hunter litter-brother Timmy (1985-2001), feisty but loving Marigold (1994-2009), sweet and affectionate Tori (1994-2009), and our lovely, brilliant, perfect Lacey (1998-2011) are taped to the inside of the lid. This is Lacey’s memorial, but she would want to share it. Lacey was amazing – our ideal girl. She was an Australian Shepherd from Kootenai Humane Society. We rescue when possible. Even with terminal cancer, she loved the trails. Her last outing, two days before she died, was a geocaching ramble in the forested area northwest of Blanchard, ID.

Many wild critters inhabit this area, so please---no edible treats. There are a couple of pencils to start with, but your own pen is a good idea. Cache is located behind and under a granite "headstone." Please re-hide it well.

Update: cache container was replaced on 10 March, 2021. Same location, but a differently shaped container. We didn't put photos in.

Since the original cache was placed, more four legged family members, all of them felines, have joined the queue just this side of that Rainbow Bridge:

Spencer. He was a legend in his own time. Dang lymphoma!!

Sonsie. Just a baby. Found in the snow. Some lovely person dumped her. She died of a pulmonary embolism following her spay surgery. We had her three weeks, but she worked her way into our hearts.

Cassidy. Born with a missing left rear leg. That didn't slow her down. She was a sweet orange cream Persian. We treated her for renal failure successfully for over a year, but finally it was time. She was 17.

Ridley. He was a gorgeous and very sweet "Tuxedo kitty."  Lung cancer.

Matilda. Renal failure at age 15 or 16. She was an adult/senior  Kootenai Humane Society adoptee, so we were never sure of her age. One thing for sure: from the day we first met her she was "Daddy's girl."

Enjoy the view.
