Most travelers along U.S. Highways 56 and 64 fail to realize just how close they come to Texas......only a few feet away. Park in New Mexico, cache in Texas.
Just a few feet away from this cache is New Mexico to the north and west. The nearby survey marker is in the extreme northwest corner of this great state of Texas. Only 892 miles southward is the city of Brownsville. In comparison, and in the Mountain Time Zone, it's 595 miles to Rodeo, New Mexico, located in the southwestern corner of this beautiful state.
The famous XIT Ranch of the Texas Panhandle claimed this point, also, as its northwestern corner. The old barbed wire fence common to the two states' boundary is still in use today along many areas straight south. As a side note to the history buffs, some of the old two point, two line barbed wire fence was patented by Abram Ellwood in 1882, under U.S. Patent #253,022.
