This cache is located in the Makara Peak mountain bike park.
This award winning facility is owned by the Wellington City Council
but is managed on a day to day basis by the Makara Peak Supporters
group. In addition to creation and maintenance of tracks, MPS are
also responsible for ongoing pest control and replanting programmes
with most of the work carried out using volunteer labour. Further
information on the park and its tracks can be found at
http://www.makarapeak.org/. If you are not familiar with the park
then I would recommend that you check out the park map and track
descriptions prior to setting out.
While the park is designated dual use, it is worth remembering
that the tracks have been largely built by mountain bikers
primarily for the benefit of mountain bikers. Therefore if
travelling by foot, please be vigilant as to the sound of
approaching bikes due to the tracks being narrow and not all riders
travel as if there may be an obstacle around the corner. For this
reason I have endeavoured to place caches where there is sufficient
room either at or nearby to the gz to allow you to leave the riding
line clear.
The cache is a 160ml xeonic container painted green. It is
placed at a location on the Missing Link track at which you can
stop and soak up the surroundings prior to continuing on.
This is a fairly high muggle area as a large percentage of
riders heading up to the summit do so via this track, and there may
be little advance warning of them arriving at the GZ. There is no
need to leave the formed surface as the cache is accessible from
the track and the surrounding terrain is very steep and to do so
would be hazardous. Please re-hide the cache carefully and try not
to flatten the grass etc in its vicinity to prevent it being
muggled.
When placed, the cache contained the log, a pencil and sharpener
and small FTF prize.

Towards the summit from the GZ. If you look closely you can
just make out the line of the track.
