This cache has been archived.

TheVogonPoet: Hi,

This cache has been in need of maintenance for an extended period of time. Due to the lack of response toward the needed maintenance since my last contact, I am archiving the cache. If you do happen to complete the maintenance required and wish to activate the cache again just let me know and I will consider unarchiving it once the issue is resolved.

Thanks!

Geocache Description:

A easy find although you will not want to allow the kids to run around while you get this one. Keep your hands to yourself here and don't do anything to anger the gods.

Beware the Hamadryad as she is a tough and relentless spirit bound to her tree and dangerous to anyone who would do it harm.

Greek mythological beings that live in trees. They are a particular type of dryad, which in turn are a particular type of nymph. Hamadryads are born bonded to a particular tree. Some believe that hamadryads are the actual tree, while normal dryads are simply the entities, or spirits, of the trees. If the tree died, the hamadryad associated with it died as well. For that reason, dryads and the gods punished any mortals who harmed trees.
The Deipnosophistae of Athenaeus lists eight Hamadryads, the daughters of Oxylus and Hamadryas:

Karya (Walnut or Hazelnut)
Balanos (Oak)
Kraneia (Dogwood)
Morea (Mulberry)
Aigeiros (Black Poplar)
Ptelea (Elm)
Ampelos (Vines, especially Vitis)
Syke (Fig)

The cache is for SCAR 2011 and should not be sought out till May 20th at 5:30pm all logs before this time will be deleted.
