Zoom in on Fremantle - I
Fremantle is a working port city, full of old world charm, and the first area settled by the Swan River colonists in 1829. The city is named after Captain Charles Howe Fremantle, an English naval officer, who established a camp at the site and thereby pronounced the possession of Western Australia.
Fremantle today retains much of its old charm: its situation at the mouth of the Swan River, its picturesque old buildings, its cultural diversity and what its long-time residents still call the Fremantle feeling. There is a lot to see and do, all in a few square kilometres, and it would be hard to find a bigger variety of sights, sounds and experiences. And they can be encompassed comfortably on foot.
