There's plenty of local history to read about here, as well as an impressive 35ft Comet windmill in working order nearby. Even the "littlest house" has some interesting history attached to it.
The explorer William Landsborough passed through the area in 1862, and in it's early years Prairie served as a Cobb and Co depot. It was also during this time that the town grew as a regional centre for the many sheep and cattle properties in the area.
