A 'nano' located close to the remains of 'Clough Staunch' by the
banks of the River Lark. Bring your own pen and a pair of tweezers
or similar to retrieve the log.
A 'staunch' is a primitive form of lock in which boats are carried over shallow parts of the river in a rush of water released by the lock. This is a pretty area by the banks on the river Lark with views of Lackford lakes in the background. Parking is available close by at approx. N 52 18.357 E000 39.330 but this can be a little bit stinky depending on the wind direction!
A nicer alternative is to park in the car park at West Stow Country park and take a pleasant walk to the cache along a section of the 'Lark Valley Path' which runs from Mildenhall to Bury St Edmunds. There is a visitor centre and an Anglo Saxon Village in the country park which are worth a look. I understand that parking there is now on a 'pay & display' basis, (many thanks to Cabaretjones for the info). There are however many free off road spots on the main road just outside the park, a popular one being opposite where the footpath path goes to the old pumping station (the red brick building just outside of the country park.) The path from the country park car park area joins this path at this point. There is plenty of wildlife to see, including various types of deer, birds and maybe even the odd grass snake. Please note that you do not have to go into the fenced off area.
*** FTF Honours go to Cabaretjones - WELL DONE ***
