The CLAY MEN of Sayreville Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time or has had no owner response for at least 30 days, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

The Cache is hidden in what was once the southern section of the Crossman Clay Pit/ Quarry and is now John F Kennedy Memorial Park in Sayreville, NJ.

The Clay Pit began as a "Marine Bay" during the Cretaceous period about 80 million years ago. Left click Here for more information about the Sayreville Clay Pit. Click the Related Web Page at the top of the cache page to learn more about Clay and and its origins.

The Cache is NOT at the Listed Coordinates. The listed coordinates are for Parking.

WARNING: WET Clay will stick to your footwear like CEMENT! Choose a route to the "PINES" that avoids most if not all of the Clay in wet conditions. For the suggested route to the Cache Site see the WAYPOINTS section below!

The CLAY MEN were your typical fun loving good natured Martians before being turned into Clay by QUEEN AZURA & MING THE MERCILESS for opposing their plan to destroy the Earth. They join forces with FLASH GORDON and his friends to defeat the Evil Duo in the 1938 Thriller Serial in 15 parts; "FLASH GORDON'S TRIP TO MARS". As characteristic of the genre, each episode ended with Flash Gordon and his friends facing certain death...and each new episode began with an improbable escape.

In the late 1940's and early 50's the Flash Gordon serials became a staple of Saturday morning children's programming. To this day, I can think of no better way to spend a Saturday morning then watching "Flash Gordon", accompanied by a glass of milk and a slice of chilled Ebinger's "Mocha Cake".

The Cache is a Decorated (right genus, wrong species), Decon Container holding "Clay Men", a log and pen. Please make certain the Top of the Decon Container is closed completely and Snapped Shut at all 4 corners!
