A memorial cairn was installed at the entrance to Gabriel's Gully in 1911 The inscription reads " This cairn is errected to commemorate the discovery of gold in Gabriel's gully by Gabriel Read." Another panel reads " Over 300 miners of 1861 assembled here in May 1911, to celebrate the discovery of gold in Gabriel's Gully".
Subsequent celebrations have been held in 1921 (60th Jubilee), 1936 the 75th Anniversary, 1961 the Centennial Celebrations and 18 - 21 March 2011 the 150th Anniversary.
This cache was placed at the time of the later celebration. The cache is a plastic screw capped container across from the 50th Jubilee cairn.
