The white building to the north is the main building of one of the oldest schools in this area, now home to an art school. The cache is located across the street from where we stood as safety patrol members with our yellow 5 foot stick and vest...ready to safely cross the little kids on their way home. The playground, classrooms, cafetorium, and fields are gone, but our memories will always be there.
This was our childhood home away from home, Loloma Elementary School, our mascot: Lions, colors: yellow and white. We went to Loloma from kindergarten through 8th grade with our cousins and all the kids in the neighborhood. Mom was a terrific home room mother. We spent from Sept. through May in school, then the summers at recreation in the cafetorium and playing or watching baseball on the Loloma Little League fields. We became skilled at tetherball, kickball, shop, and home ec. We also well remember those spring carnivals, classroom holiday parties, and our first girl-boy experiences at our 7th and 8th grade dances. We are proud to remember all of the students standing at attention in classroom lines each morning to salute the American flag and recite the Pledge of Allegience, and after 4th grade, being part of the Student Council. Just give us a snow cone and some jacks and we can close our eyes to relive those magical days at school!
