This is a CHIRP cache and we believe it to be the first one in
Shropshire, but unlike many others of this type we have also
included a 'non-chirp' clue for GeoCachers who do not have a 'Chirp
enabled' GPSr.
A 'Chirp' is a new device which automatically sends waypoint and
cache hint information directly to your GPS handheld when you come
within 10 metres of it. The downside is that at the moment they are
only compatible with one manufacturer of GPS receivers (Garmin),
and even then, only with certain models in their range, and even
then only if you've updated your GPS's software to the latest
version. There is reportedly an app for the iPhone on the way, and
forums say an Android version isn't far behind so hopefully
'Chirps' will become more accessible to all.
For more information on 'Chirps' you may wish to look

That said, 'Chirps' offer an exciting new dimension to an
already exciting hobby. All you need to do is load up the initial
co-ords for this cache, head towards that location and when you get
close switch on 'Chirp Searching' on your GPS (Settings ->
Geocaches -> Chirp Searching > ON).
When you get within range of the hidden chirp, like a singing
bird in a tree, it will talk to your GPS (sorry you can't hear it)
and a message will come up on the screen asking you to download the
waypoint and hint data that sends you further on your quest !!!
Please Note: There is no need to look for the Chirp itself. It
is hidden (with permission) on private land. Please do not enter or
attempt to interfere with the Chirp.
The cache is hidden within 300 metres.
Given this is a very new concept, we would welcome feedback
about what people think of the idea of 'Chirps' before we consider
placing any more. Are they too restrictive or does having the
'no-chirp' hint overcome that problem well enough ??
