How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Cumbria's first 'chirp' cache, perhaps the first in the North West too.

This cache can only be located using a chirp compatible GPS device.

Only certain units are Chirp compatible and you may need to upgrade your firmware first.

To find more about how this works you may want to look here.

All you have to do is set your GPS unit to search for Chirps and walk towards the headline coordinates

The bird is broadcasting a waypoint and hint for the final location, which is hidden within 500 metres.

Picture of Birds

I had to update my own GPS units firmware to find my first chirp a few weeks ago in Bristol (Chripy Chirpy Cheep Cheep ) which incedentally was the UK's first Chirp Cache. here.

- I wonder how popular this will be in the Lakes ?

Once you know the actual location of the actual cache you are in for an easy 0.5m walk along a well maintained bridle way which should take fifteen minutes. Parking at the Hotel or at the roadside just beyond the start of the Bridle Way..
