I was angry with my friend;
I told my wrath, my wrath did end.
I was angry with my foe:
I told it not, my wrath did grow.

And I waterd it in fears,
Night and morning with my tears:
And I sunned it with smiles,
And with soft deceitful wiles.

And it grew both day and night,
Till it bore an apple bright.
And my foe beheld it shine,
And he knew that it was mine.

And into my garden stole.
When the night had veiled the pole;
In the morning glad I see,
My foe outstretchd beneath the tree.
(William Blake)

This cache is designed to be reached along with the High Cross cache above the town of Baltinglas in the Garden County. I am sure that there are many approaches to this mountain but I found when placing the cache that the following was useful. At the parking coordinates N52 56.525 W006 42.305 a barrier indicates the start of the walk which looks very ropey for the first 100m as some people have obviously used the area as a mini dump. Don't be put off by this as everything after that is much nicer. You need to continue on the path till you reach a gate. Climb over and continue on straight keeping to the base of the field along the hedgerow. You will reach another field and some large boulders. Keep going until you reach a sturdy wall which bends left toward the mountain. Follow that up to a gap and then through it and left up toward open mountain country. Now you need to be heading for reference point 1 at N52 56.714 W006 41.803 where you should turn right up along rough ground and cut down gorse. Then you should reach ref point 2 at N52 56.702 W006 41.732. Here turn left up on to open ground (where there may be plenty of ferns and gorse in Summer). Follow the coordinates for the cache from here and the high cross will soon come into view. There are one or two impediments but nothing of great consequence. Just be aware that close to the high cross cache some of the rising ground is tricky.

This cache is reached after a pleasant walk of about 800m across open fields and then some mountain moorland to the summit. Close to the summit is a large megalithic tomb.

From Mountain Views:
Baltinglass Hill Hill Wicklow County Cnoc Bhealach Conglais A name in Irish (Language) (poss. Ir. Cnoc Bhealach Conglais [PDT], 'hill of Bealach Conglais') Height: 382 metres OS 1/50k Mapsheet: 61 for top Grid Ref: S88505 89280 Amend Latitude: 52.947343 Longitude: -6.684106 ITM: 688434 689316 Prominence: 227m Isolation: 3.5km Rating graphic. There is a hillfort on summit named Rathcoran and a second one to NW. The entry in PNCW for Rathcoran refers to an article on "The Excavation of a Burial Cairn on Baltinglass Hill" in PRIA xlvi (1941), p. 221. This makes it clear that Baltinglass Hill is the English name of this height. Has been called Coolanarrig. Baltinglass Hill is the 867th highest summit in Ireland. Baltinglass Hill is the second most westerly summit in the Dublin/Wicklow area.

Do not start the trek without all the proper mountain rain gear, waterproof boots and the guidance material, compass, map, GPSr with mapping etc.

Please note that all parts of this cache are hiked at your own risk. The cache owner takes no responsibility of any sort for any reason including accidents or mishaps.

Please be aware that cars parked in areas close to walking trails are vulnerable and they can be vandalised or stolen. Unfortunately this is an ongoing problem which is extremely difficult to solve, so there is a risk involved. I have heard recently that many hiker groups are parking at the nearest population centres and getting taxis to and from the start points at very little expense.

Please observe the country code to the best of your ability. Local landowners often generously allow access to upland areas across or through parts of their private property. Please, please be conscious of this and return the courtesy by keeping all gates closed, immediately and not on your way back!. Please use the gates where appropriate but if you have to climb over them then use the hinged side ONLY.
Please do not cause any damage of any sort to fences or barriers along the way.
