The Glen Osmond mines represent the first mines in Australia. The nation's early economy relied heavily on the exportation of lead and silver from these mines. In time, other mines throughout the nation came into being and used the skill, labour, scientific method and experiences thus gained. These mines are proof of the resourcefulness of an age, reflect the people involved and embody distinctive characteristics of an engineering age. The mines provided work for more than one hundred miners for several years. Most of the silver and lead ore was transported to England for smelting until South Australia acquired its own smelters on East Terrace and at the Glen Osmond Mine.

The entrance to the adit is near the edge of the Hayward Drive. There is no parking near the cache. Your should use the parking waypoint 170m west of the cache. Take care on your walk to the cache as there is no footpath. The rule is to walk against the flow of traffic as they can see you, and you can see that they can see you! For the same lack of footpath reasons it is suggested that this cache is not recommended as a night cache.
