On December 16th, 1960 United Flight 826 collided with TWA Flight 266 over Staten Island, NY. Flight 266 fell onto Miller Army Base in Staten Island killing all 44 aboard. Flight 866 continued over Brooklyn, with the Pilot trying for a crash landing in Prospect Park to save the lives of those aboard and lives on the ground. The plane fell two blocks short of the Park and crashed on 7th Ave. and Sterling Place killing 83 people onboard and 6 on the ground. A lone survivor an 11 year old boy lasted 27 hours in the hospital before succumbing to his injuries. At the time this was one of Aviations Worst Accidents.
There has never been a public memorial to the 134 victims of this disaster.
On Dec. 16th, 2010 at 10AM 50 years to the day, an 8' granite monument was unveiled. The memorial was dedicated and a service was held to their rememberance.
The monument is located INSIDE the historic Green-Wood Cemetery. Remember to be respectful to the gravesites and any visitors at the cemetery. The memorial is close to 32nd Street & 5th Ave.
Green-Wood Cemetery is open everyday from 8AM to 5PM. Use the 25th street and 5th Ave. entrance. Please take the time to read the inscription and names of the victims of this disaster on the Memorial.

Use the United Flt #826 list of victims & take the FIRST initial of the FIRST names of the 12fth, 57th & 52nd victims on the list.
