Beyond the end of Virginia Creeper trail

The Virginia Creeper trail is a well-loved, well-traveled route from Whitetop station to Damascus. But if you go the other way, you are soon far, far, away from it all. Once in a while you may see a few railroad ties peeking through to remind you of the trains that used to run on this rail bed.
The walk from Whitetop station is about two miles, but it's level and gorgeous. You'll be at the cache before you cross any trestle bridges. Be careful if you choose to do so, for they have fallen into disrepair. You can always go around the bridges, on paths and fords.
