Birdsville is a remote location and care should be taken getting there. Check track conditions before leaving home as the Birdsville Track can be shut down by rain. Make sure you have plenty of water and food supplies for your trip.
This area is very interesting.
Birdsville is also home to an 80 kW Geothermal Power Station, with water being extracted from the Great Artesian Basin (at 98 °C) and used to heat the operating fluid isopentane in a Rankine Cycle engine. The geothermal plant produces around one third of the town's electricity. The water (once cooled) is also the source of the town's drinking water. (From Wikipedia)
Free use of the car wash area is a flow on effect of the cooling down of the water.
