Beardmore Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

inthespirit: Unfortunately I am unable to keep the cache as i no longer live in the area and have a young baby now. I suspect the area has been tidied up or that the youths have found it. This is a popular wee park now the new flats have people living there. Thank you for all who came on our little adventure!

The Golden Jubilee Hospital was built as a private hospital in 1994 by Health Care international at the cost of £180 million. As a private hospital it did not fare well and eventually the NHS bought it over for £37.5 million.
The Beardmore Hotel is also situated beside the hospital and caters for many wedding receptions. Originally built to for the wealthy relatives of the patients, it was also bought over by the NHS. The Hotel is named after William Beardmore who owned a shipbuilding yard on this site (1901-1930). It covered 100 acres and at the yards height it employed 13,000 people building ships, aircraft, mines, tanks and ammunitions. After the First World War the company was in trouble due to the fall in orders and even though the yard diversified into building locomotives and steel houses the company closed the site in 1930.

The blue crane in the distance is Clydebank’s Titan Crane. This Crane was situated in another one of the Clyde’s famous Shipyards John Browns.
This massive crane allowed John Browns to win many contact of large passenger liners and warships.
It could lift loads up to 150 tons and in WW2 it was increased to 200 tons.
Now it is open as a tourist attraction and often people abseil down the Titan to raise money for charity.
