Geocache Description:

Denny Hamlin Denny Hamlin believes he's improved as a driver through each the past two seasons. "Every year you expect yourself to be better than you were the previous year," Hamlin said in February before the Daytona 500. "Without a doubt, I know in my mind that I'm better than I was in 2008 and in 2008 I was better than I was in 2007." The stats back Hamlin up. Piloting the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 11, Hamlin wheeled to a single win amid 12 top-fives and 18 top-tens in 2007. Last year, Hamlin upped his game to a win total of four with 15 top-fives and 20 top-tens -- good for a fifth-place finish in the series standings. "I think everyone knows on a competitive level we're better every single year," said Hamlin in February. "Last year was just almost good enough performance-wise to win a championship, so what does that mean for 2010?" What is has meant is that Hamlin has scored six wins this season and certainly has the benefit of momentum on his side. Not only did Hamlin win the regular season finale at Richmond, but he carries a 10-point lead into the Chase. It also means Hamlin has to be the favorite to top Jimmie Johnson and win the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup championship. That's a fact Hamlin himself isn't hiding. "The thing is, never through the course of my career have I ever felt -- and I said this last week -- that anywhere I show up, I could win," Hamlin said last week after winning at Atlanta. "Other than, the exception of a road course, I feel like I can run Top-5 there, but I've never felt like I could just win anywhere I went, until this year. And especially at this point now, the confidence level is pretty high." The key for Hamlin, versus last year, is getting off to a strong start in the Chase. Hamlin led off with a second-place run at Loudon last season before stumbling to four finishes of 22nd or worse in the next six races. To pour salt on the wound, Hamlin added three consecutive finishes of 3rd or better -- including a win at the final race in Homestead -- to fall short of Johnson in the points by 317 points.
