Geocache Description:

Nice easy stroll on the canal towpath to find and locate this cache

The Huddersfield Narrow Canal runs for 20 miles between Huddersfield in West Yorkshire and Ashton under Lyne in Greater Manchester and reveals a waterway of startling contrasts. Stretches of tranquil, well-wooded countryside give way to dramatic mills and historic industry - a reminder of the days when it was the shortest way of carrying goods and people between Lancashire and Yorkshire. The summit of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal is the highest navigable waterway in Britain. Standedge Tunnel on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal is Britain's longest canal tunnel. The canal has a total of 74 locks. It connects end on with the Ashton Canal and the Huddersfield Broad Canal. The Huddersfield Narrow Canal re-opened to navigation in May 2001. The rebirth of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal has confounded doubters to become the outstanding success of the canal restoration movement. The restored canal and Standedge Tunnel were officially declared open by His Royal Highness Prince Charles on 3rd September 2001. The Cache itself is a 50ml tube covered with camo tape containing a log and pencil only! Please hide well as this is a very busy muggle location at times! FTF - The Gom Squad!!!
