Some years ago a datestone marked 1867 was found in a stone wall in the carpark behind Supervalu.
It marked the site of a huge garden that belonged to the Andrews family (see Comber historical 3&4 caches for info) They lived in "The Old House" which is now Supervalu and the gardens ran all the way to the river behind the tennis courts.
John Andrews neice Molly Drennan spent a large part of her childhood here. The gardens covered what are now the tennis courts and much of the present carpark.
The area the cache is in used to be a circular pond surrounded by Yew trees. People are known to have drowned in the pond. Molly describes the little nooks and workshops in and around this area as "the place" There were Stables, coach houses, a blacksmiths, carpenters shop, a row of pigsties facing the river, and a huge 6 storied grain store which was close to the leisure centre. You will see a lot of the remaining stone walls, if you look all around you when you find the cache.
