This is our version of the 10 year anniversary celebration. The Kootenay Pirates hid an almost perfect 10. Well, we opted for the much simpler Roman Numeral 10, yes an X - thus X marks the spot for the five stand alone caches. Enjoy the leisurely walk around this decommisioned park. All caches can be gotten by following old trails or roads.
In the beginning caches were just under a pile of rocks or geosticks and were hidden in tupperware, margarine containers etc., but a long lasting ammo can works well, while still having a more selective hide.
This area of the old park still has lots of the remnants of the old logging along with some still large trees. It would in fact make a great night cache location. Another Eerie Erie night cache!
Cache is well hidden but with the right perspective the cache is quickly discovered. It might have to be a two cacher job! Do not pull the cache too far from the hiding hole. There is NO need to climb -- PLEASE DON'T! Also, NO DIGGING, PRODDING, PRYING, SCRAPING, or REMOVING WOODY DEBRIS, or the like is necessary; just a little thinking, and perhaps the hint.
You guessed it; the cache is hidden in an ammo box and contains the usual stash note, log book, and trading item goodies. June 2013 -- NO LONGER AN AMMO BOX -- CAN'T AFFORD MORE!! There is also a modest FTF.
Have fun and think environmentally friendly.
During high water in the spring, one may get wet feet when walking towards the cache as there are numerous emphemeral channels around.
