Geocache Description:

The is a cache with a beautiful view. It is a stiff (but quick) walk from the parking area. The cache is in the nature reserve, but is accessible without a permit . It is not advisable to hunt for the cache at night as there is a small possibility that vagrants may be around in the area. One should approach the cache from the land.

Wolfgat derives it name from a cave in the limestone cliffs where a pack of brown hyena's lived in the old days. ("Wolf" was the term used by the old Dutch Settlers called Hyenas and "Gat" a name for a cave). The area was declared a nature reserve in 1986 and covers 248 hectares. The site of the reserve which dates back over 40 000 years is rich in fossils and now protects the spectacular coastline and limestone cliffs along Baden Powell Drive. These cliffs offer beautiful, interrupted views of the False Bay coastline. It is the largest reserve on the Cape Flats protecting the rapidly dwindling "strandveld" and "coastal fynbos" vegetation. If you are lucky and quiet, you could glimpse a porcupine or grysbok.
