McLaren Falls Park (Bay of Plenty) Multi-Cache
Lion Fish: Today we visited McLaren Falls Park and removed all the 6 Waypoints, and the cache. The area around the final has changed drastically over the years and is sadly now overgrown with gorse.
Mr Lion Fish sustained quite a few scratches in retrieving the cache [xx(]..... archiving is now appropriate.

McLaren Falls Park borders Lake McLaren, and is formed behind a dam built for hydro-electricity generation. The landscape includes parkland and native bush. There is a fine botanical collection of trees and a range of birdlife, including the North Island brown kiwi, North Island robin and long-tailed cuckoo.
The park has accommodation, with camping on any open, grassed area, except Cherry Bay. Trout fishing is permitted year round in the lake and nearby Ruahihi Canal with a licence. An animal park adjoins McLaren Falls Park.
How to get there ... McLaren Falls Park is 15 minutes south of Tauranga. Turn off State Highway 2 to State Highway 29, then into McLaren Falls Road.
We look forward to the challenge and sense of achievement from doing a Multi, and we know that there are more geocachers out there just like us. So to celebrate the arrival of Spring 2010, we have set up a 6-Stage (plus Final) Multi-cache at McLaren Falls Park.
- Each of the 6 Stages/Waypoints will give you part of the solution to the missing 6 digits of the final co-ordinates.
- We suggest that you find the Waypoints in the order given, however that is not essential.
- Waypoints 3 & 4 - can be done together.
- Recommended parking area for accessing the final location is S37 48.989 E176 02.378.
- The location of the final is offset, so it will be necessary to use the final's 'hint' to find the cache.
- Bring your camera as you will find plenty of photo opportunities here.
- The roads are one-way in places, so navigating your way around will be part of the fun.
- If you decide to do all the stages on foot/bike, total distance will be about 6 km.
- We anticipate that it will take 1.5 to 2.5 hours to complete the whole of this multi-cache.
- The rear entrance (exit) gate is usually locked, so you will be unable to drive into the park through that gate.
- Park Hours: 7.30am to 5.30pm - the entry gate is locked outside these hours.
Final Co-ordinates: S37 49.ABC E176 02.DEF.
Allow plenty of time, and enjoy. Good luck!
