Trail of the Turtles Multi-Cache
T.Gazoni: I honestly thought that my post on 08/07/20 was letting Geocaching know that I was ending this cache. Evidently I do not know how to properly end, disable, archive or do away with a cache. For that, I truly apologize. There is NOTHING left in that area of the cache. I personally removed EVERYTHING. It no longer exists. I trust this statement does officially inform those who need to know the status of "The Trail of the Turtles"( GC2COOP )that it is gone.

Multi-cache of five phases. Suggested parking @ N41 52.598 W079 06.261.
Trail of the Turtles
This multi-cache is located in the woods between Scandia and the Allegheny Reservoir. To access by auto, turn off Scandia Rd. on to Coal Bed Rd. Coal Bed is paved in parts & gravel in others, but well maintained in all seasons. To get to a more reasonable starting position for this cache, I recommend you go beyond where Coal Bed Rd. ends. Miner Ln. begins where Coal Bed ends. Miner lane runs between posted No Tresspassing signs for .7 mile before acessing public lands. It is narrow, rough in places& unmaintained. Higher clearance vehicles would be best, but not absolutely necessary. It can be muddy in a short section during snowy and/or wet conditions. I suggest parking at a good size clearing at N4152.598 W079 06.261. There are spots to park and/or turn around before reaching the clearing. You decide how far to drive before you park and set out on foot. You could also access the cache by boat from the Allegheny Reservoir. That would mean a longer hike.
By starting at the suggested parking spot, The Trail of the Turtles will take you on a 5-6 mile trek that is basically a loop. This is a FIVE stage cache over some difficult terrain with a couple pretty good climbs. Completion time will vary, depending on the individual or the groups abilities. I suggest a window of 4 hours. Because of the distance & two decent elevation changes, this cache is NOT small child friendly,. Having said that, however, much of the way there are old logging or oil field roads still distinguishable & used now by 4 wheelers, horseback riders, mountain bikers and hikers. Following these when possible will keep you on higher ground for the most part and make for easier trekking. They will not be straight as the crow flies.
At each of the first four check points a turtle will provide you with the coordinates you will need to successfully find the next turtle. At the fifth stop you will find a regular size plastic box covered in camo duct tape containing a log book and typical items to trade for, if you so desire. As with any multi-phase cache, plase DO NOT reveal the coordinates of stops 2 - 5 to others in order to save them the experience of "The Trail of the Turtles" from start to finish. The hike is located in prime hunting territory, so don't forget your blaze orange articles of clothing if your doing this cache during hunting season. This is a cache that involves a significant hike and is off the beaten path for most. It will take you through some pretty cool & scenic areas. Good luck. Be safe. Stay hydrated and most importantly enjoy.
