Most of you know that black bears are rare in southeastern Wisconsin, but there are between 22,000 and 40,000 black bears in the northern part of the state. However, back in June of 2010, there were many reported and confirmed sightings of a wayward black bear in the Kewaskum area.
Although it seems that bear sightings are on the rise in southern Wisconsin, this bear quickly became a celebrity, as residents went out of their way to catch a glimpse of the newcomer. Experts say that as mating season approaches, young male bears are on the move looking for mates and new territory, so keep your eyes open and maybe you’ll spy something besides a raccoon or a deer on the way to this cache!
The area is also a public hunting area, so please make sure to wear bright orange during the hunting season.
Cache is not winter friendly, but is available in winter.
Plenty of roadside parking on wide shoulders in the summer, but watch your little ones. Parking may not be so easy in winter, depending on the amount of snow.
This cache was initially placed as part of the West Bend Cache Ba$h. Please remember to stamp your booklet and leave the stamp behind for the next finder.
