Geocache Description:

This cache is located along an established walking track around Lake Sambell Reserve in the North East town of Beechworth. You will find the cache is located near the 'Clay Banks'.

You can access GZ along the walking track from many different locations, and we have included a couple of Waypoints where you can park.

In the 1920s the area, which was the site of the Rocky Mountain Mining Company during the 1800's - early 1900's, was created into a man-made recreational lake and reserve.

Today it is used for swimming, fishing, walking, cycling and other forms of recreational use. Redfin & Trout are often caught here.
The Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail has been extended so that it passes through the reserve. Extensive work has been & is still currently been undertaken to provide walking trails throughout the reserve.
There is also a nice playground located near the ‘Sandy Beach’ with BBQ facilities.

If you take Peach Drive and park at the listed WP, it will be roughly a 15 minute walk to GZ where you can take in beautiful views of the lake. This will have you starting the track between the Old Beechworth swimming pool and the lake.
There is also a Bird Watching box along this part of the track.

If you would like a shorter walk, you can park on Jarvis Rd. This is accessed via the Lower Stanley Road. The cache is a short walk from there.
Alternatively you can walk from town and experience the full track around the lake.

The cache is a painted 300ml container.
It contains a log book & small swaps, but please bring a pen.

Please Note: Although it is an established walking track, it can be slippery after rain due to the clay base, so please take care. We would recommend this cache be done during daylight.
