Lair to Kirkmichael is a 5 mile walk, taking you over rough terrain, through livestock and there is little or no visible path. The complete walk is suited only for experienced walkers. Please wear waterproof boots as it is boggy in places. One meadow has been churned up by the cattle making the walking difficult underfoot. There are waymarker posts along the way but these have been knocked by the cattle so please don't rely on them being accurate. Further along the trail there are sheep roaming. There are old rickety stiles to cross so please take care.
