Geocache Description:

Camp Phillips is owned by the Pushmataha Area Council of the Boy Scouts. The property was donated to the council in 1953 by Egbert Phillips. The camp is 246 acres on the southern border of Lafayette County, Mississippi.

Coon Creek cuts through the property and there is a beautiful lake in the southwest corner of the camp. The council has used the camp for occasional camporees and troop campouts over the years. In 1980 there was brief consideration given to developing the property as a full featured camping facility, but the plans were soon abandoned over the more centrally located Camp Seminole in Oktibbeha County. The primary use of Camp Phillips has been for income production from timber sales. The entire property was clearcut, except for the streamside management zones, in 1996 and in 1997 was replanted to superior loblolly pine.

Permission to place the cache has been obtained from Pushmataha Area Council. The cache is at the location of an old home site that is about 300' into the property. If you desire to hike any further into property, additional permission must be obtained from the council office in Columbus, Mississippi.

The camp is accessed off Highway 9E in Calhoun County. At Sarepta you should turn north on CR-169. Continue north for one half mile where you will turn right on CR-171. From here you will travel north 2.2 miles until you cross into south Lafayette County. Just after you cross the county line, you will come to a turn to the west. Take that turn and the camp is about 4/10 of a mile.

There are hunting clubs using adjacent properties in the area so appropriate cautions should be taken when seeking this cache during hunting seasons.
