Aberdeen Tunnel Traditional Cache
btonyb: Came here with the dogs after seeing the DNF to find the area has been excavated. The cache was still there but now covered with all kinds of rubble. I rescued the cache and its contents but due to the construction, I've decided to archive this one.
Will replace it later after the digging ends.

Aberdeen Tunnel is a 2 tube tunnel linking Happy Valley and Wong Chuk Hang (near Aberdeen). It shortens the journey between the 2 points and avoids the narrow roads previously used above. It was built in 1982 and it is 1.9km long. 61,000 vehicles use the tunnel every day.
A small fact that is unknown to most Hong Kong residents is the fact that the tunnel houses The Aberdeen Tunnel Underground Laboratory; the only underground particle physics laboratory in Hong Kong. It is situated between the two vehicular tunnel tubes, behind Gates 2 and 5 of Aberdeen Tunnel.
The laboratory was practically abandoned after HKU researchers completed their experiments in the 80s, as no other experiments of a similar nature made further use of the facility. However, in 2006, HKU and the Chinese University of Hong Kong reopened the laboratory, in order to participate in a neutrino experiment by the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant.
The cache is located high above the tunnel and can be reached very easily from Blacks Link. With few tables, the GZ is ideal for a picnic as gives great views of the tunnel entrance as well as Ocean Park as well as Wong Chuk Hang and the seas beyond.
The cache is a medium sized container suitable for various swag.
