This year marks the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of
America (BSA). The BSA theme this year is "Get Into the Game" based
on geocaching. Many states are participating in the Cache to Eagle Series
(CTE). Vermont is participating with three geocaches hidden in
each of our BSA Districts:
- Ethan Allen District - Serving Addison, Bennington and Rutland
Counties.
- Calvin Coolidge District - Serving Windsor and Windham
Counties.
- Three Rivers District - Serving Chittenden, Franklin, Grand
Isle and Western Lamoille counties.
- Long Trail District - Serving Orleans, Essex, Caledonia,
Washington and Orange Counties.
Each of the 12 geocaches is placed near a local Eagle Project.
There are hundreds of Eagle Projects throughout Vermont and we are
hoping to showcase more than the 12 that are part of this
series.
This geocache will bring you to a pear orchard on Harwood
Hill.
Here Eagle Scout P Mazzola of Troop 353 volunteered over 200 hours
in 2009 to prune the trees and remove overgrowth from the orchard
which is part of the Bennington Project Independence.
About the Cache
This is a 3 stage multi. The first stage is to make sure you
park in the right place, it is a micro in the parking lot of
Bennington Project Independence. From here the second stage and the
final cache are within walking distance.
While you are at the second stage, take a moment to look over the
orchard and also across the valley to the Battle Monument.
There is a great FTF prize, a "Get Into the Game" geocoin donated
by geoscouting.org.
