Geocache Description:

Silverwood, or Ravenfield Woods as it’s sometimes called, is a small area of woodland near the old village of Ravenfield. There used to be a colliery a little bit further down Holling’s Lane until it closed in the early 90s. Since 2007 the pit top has been in the process of being landscaped. There is now a lake and some young woodland there. Hopefully it will become a haven for wildlife before too long. It is to be known as Silverwood Country Park. It is well worth a walk around.

There are some lovely views towards Swinton and Mexborough (and maybe even beyond on a good day) from the woods (best views around number 3 in series). At the time of placing the caches parts of the woodland were covered in a bluebell carpet.

This is the final cache in a series of six caches. You will find a clue to the co-ordinates of the this cache inside the lids and in the log books of the previous 5 caches in the “A Silverwood Walk” series. The published co-ordinates are not for the cache itself, but for a local public play area behind the Ravenfield Arms pub.

The cache co-ordinates are N 53° 26.2BC W 001° 16.DEF found from the previous 5 caches.

There is a small parking area at the side of the Ravenfield Arms pub on Holling’s Lane. After you’ve finished the series, the kids might want to visit the public outdoor play area behind the pub.

Cache is a regular 1 litre camouflaged rectangular clip & lock box. It is suitable for swaps and trackables.

The area is popular with dog walkers and local kids, so please use stealth when retrieving and re-hiding the cache.
