Geocache Description:

A 3 stage multi in the Lowell area. You will need to have info from the cache page in order to complete this geocache. Stage 1 is in a flood plain and may be inaccessible at times. This is our first multi - we hope you enjoy it. Cache was placed using a Garmin Nuvi with a 20 foot accuracy range.

Rix Robinson was a fur trader in the area we now know as West Michigan. We have found caches in Grand Haven (Rix’s Run), Ada (Hello Mr. Robinson) and Ada/Lowell (Thanks to Them) that commemorate his ventures. We thought it would be nice to include a cache that contained information from his days in the Lowell area. Stage #1 - At this stage you will see one of the reasons why this area was deemed a good spot for the fur trading commerce. Please note that this stage is located on a flood plain and may not be accessible at all times. If the river is flooded, the water may be ABOVE YOUR HEAD and the info you need will be UNDER WATER. Stay smart and be safe, we promise we will not archive this cache if someone who would like to find it was unable to do so at an earlier date due to flooding. This stage is also located on a former portion of the North Country Trail whose national headquarters are in historic downtown Lowell. Needed info: 42 55.abc 085 22.def Daniel A. Wingeier was born in: (take this date minus 1134 for abc) and died in: (take this date minus 1673 for def). Stage #2 - This stage is a short drive from stage 1. Years ago a rock with a plaque stood at the corner of Fulton and Bowes; when Bowes Road was straightened the rock and plaque disappeared. For a long time, we wondered what had happened to it - once the nearby park was developed we took the kids there to swim and discovered what had happened to the plaque. Update 2019: the plaque is now back near it's original spot! We've updated the info at stage 1. Needed info: 42 55.5bd 085 2c.3a9 A - Rix Robinson bought the trading post in 1a 21 B - Stone erected in 1921, commissioned by Daughters of Veterans 18b1-65 C - The original post was established in c800 D - The original owner of the post was killed in 180d Stage #3 - It is about .2 mile to the cache from the Stony Lakeside parking lot or you can park by the dog park. The easiest route is to walk west towards the doggie park. Turn south (or left for the directionally challenged!) and follow the fence along the water treatment plant; the path will lead you almost to the cache location. You will need to bushwhack a short distance in order to reach the final - we recommend long pants, sturdy shoes and in the summer bug spray and an eagle eye for poison ivy. FTF - you get first choice of all the swag. Congrats redhedmary!
