Tiszaflower / Tiszavirág
Every year between late spring and early summer, the Tisza River "blooms" and millions of "Tiszaflowers" swarm at parts of the Tisza River.
The "Tiszaflower", Palingenia Longicauda, is a long-tailed mayfly – Europe’s largest mayfly. After three years spent at the bottom of the river, the larvaes of the mayfly break for the surface where males moult and females hatch and the beautiful bridal-dance of the male and female – or "blooming" – begins before sunset.
At this time the river’s surface explodes into life. During the Tisza blooming, "Tiszaflowers" are everywhere – dancing around each other in large groups or resting on every available surface.
Rising in huge clouds, the mayflies take flight and reproduce. Shortly after mating, the females lay eggs on the river to drift to the bottom, and this spectacular blooming finishes. As darkness falls, the mayflies die and millions of dead bodies cover the river surface to be eaten by the fish. All this happens in just a few hours.
"Tiszaflower" is protected insect. Collecting the living or dead "Tiszaflowers" is prohibited by the law in Hungary.
Important: There is no pen in the cache, so bring your own! The hiding place is very busy in the day time. Watch out for muggles!
Mating / Párzás
Minden évben, késõ tavasz és kora nyár között, a Tisza kivirágzik és a Tiszavirág milliói rajzanak a folyón.
A Tiszavirág, Palingenia Longicauda, egy hosszúfarkú kérész – Európa legnagyobb kérésze. A folyó fenekén eltöltött három év után, a Tiszavirág lárvája a felszínre tör, ahol a hímek levedlenek, a nõstények kikelnek és napnyugta elõtt elkezdõdik a hímek és a nõstények csodálatos násztánca.
Ez idõ tájt a folyó felszíne életre kel. A Tisza virágzása alatt kérészek vannak mindenütt – nagy csoportokban körbetáncolják egymást és megpihennek minden rendelkezésre álló felületen.
A kérészek hatalmas felhõkben kapnak szárnyra és járják a násztáncukat. Röviddel a nász után, a nõstények petéket raknak a folyó felszínére, hogy azok lesüllyedjenek a folyó fenekére és ezzel a lenyûgözõ rajzás be is fejezõdik. Ahogy beesteledik, a kérészek elpusztulnak és milliónyi élettelen rovartest borítja be a folyó felszínét élelemként szolgálva a halaknak. Mindez pár óra alatt történik meg.
A Tiszavirág védett rovar. Az élõ és az elhullott rovarok gyûjtése egyaránt tilos Magyarországon.
Fontos: Nincs toll a ládában, ezért hozd magaddal a sajátodat! A rejtekhely nagyon forgalmas napközben. Vigyázz a muglikra!
