May 2010 is the tenth anniversary of geocaching. To mark the
occasion, Geocaching NSW is hosting a 10 Years! event close to
Australia's first ever geocache - placed only two weeks after the
first 'geostash' in the United States.
The event will take place at Baker's Flat picnic area in Lane
Cove National Park. Entry to the area is via Lady Game Drive.
Festivities will commence at 11 am. More details soon. Watch
this listing to receive updates, including any wet weather
contingency plans.
BBQ facilities are available at the picnic ground, along with
toilets and limited shelter. Please note this is a BYO
everything affair - food, drinks, etc.
A group photo will be taken at 12 noon1
pm in order for the event (and you) to receive the 'special' 10
year event icon. Please wear something 'Australian' for the photo.
Be creative; green and gold, inflatable kangaroos, flags, etc.
The event is expected to wind up around 2 pm
Apart from the festivities, the event is a perfect opportunity
for new geocachers to pick up some tips on finding and hiding
geocaches. Don't forget you can also swap geocoins and travel bugs
at the event.
Please register your intention to attend by leaving a 'will
attend' entry on this page.
This event is taking place in a National Park, therefore there
is a $7 per car entry fee - annual pass holders are exempt.
Also note, the placing or finding of geocaches is
not allowed in NSW National Parks. The Lane Cove geocache, located
on the other side of the river, is a VIRTUAL geocache.
Geocachers should NOT venture off the path to stand at the
coordinates. A photo of the area from the path or car park is
sufficient to log this virtual cache as a find. |
