We'll hang around and have a great photoshoot around 11:00am. Then maybe there might be a few geocaches planted to celebrate the occasion and you might be among the first few to rush for FTF nearby.

Why May?

On May 2, 2000, at approximately midnight (eastern time), 24 satellites around the globe processed their new orders and instantly the accuracy of GPS technology improved 10-fold. Tens of thousands of GPS receivers around the world had an instant upgrade.

On May 3rd Dave Ulmer placed a black bucket in the woods near Beaver Creek, Oregon. The coordinates was posted on newsgroup sci.geo.satellite-nav as 45°17.460'N 122°24.800'W? / ?45.291°N 122.4133°W? / 45.291; -122.4133.

By May 6, 2000, it had been found twice and logged once (by Mike Teague of Vancouver, Washington).

According to Dave Ulmer's message, the original stash was a black plastic bucket buried most of the way in the ground.

In the original geocache, there was a logbook & pencil, Dave also left various prize items as the First SWAG.

You can see some the items placed and the first SWAG in this youtube video
