Google Street View - Chippenham

In March 2010, Google's Street View service expanded to cover almost all of the roads in the United Kingdom. This allows you to virtually travel through the country's streets (who knows, you may even spot yourself!). These images are taken by Google's fleet of specially-adapted cars, each with nine cameras facing in every direction and a GPS receiver to pinpoint the images' position on the maps. The images are then stitched together by computer and put into Google Street View. More information on Street View can be found at Wikipedia.

Moving on streets can be achieved in two ways:

1. With the mouse (by double-clicking directly where you want to go on the screen or by clicking on the arrows of the navigation menu);
2. With the keyboard arrows.

Orientation (North, South, East, West) can be done by using the compass (or the left and right keyboard arrows). As an example, if you want to go North, simply rotate the compass's "N" to the top. You can also achieve this by panning the mouse on the screen.

Finally, the easiest way to "Zoom in" and "Zoom out" is to click on the "-" or "+" located under the compass. The "Zoom in" feature will sometimes help to clearly read some of the required answers.

Thanks to OusKonNé & Cétyla for the above text.

You must use Street View to discover the coordinates for the final cache:

  • From the end of Bath Road, navigate towards the mini-roundabout by the bridge. How many people are waiting to cross the road on your left at the traffic lights? Call this A.
  • Now drive to Marshfield Road and carry on until you get to the cinema. How many red bins are outside the building? Call this B.
  • Get your virtual car over to the bottom of Rowden Hill and continue to the roundabout. For how many days will the road be closed starting 26 May? Call this C.
  • Over to Pewsham. Drive south east until you get to the petrol station. How much does a litre of diesel cost in pence? Call this DEF.G (Note: You may encounter some issues with the way the picture was stitched together. If unleaded appears to cost 17.9 pence, move back one to get the correct price.)
  • Continue from the previous clue until you get to an empty car dealership. What is the speed limit on the garage premises? Call this H.

To find the final cache, go to (in real life!):

  • N 51 (A-D)(H+B).(C)(D+E)(A+H)
  • W 02 (A*E)(F*B).(D)(E*G)(G-B)

You can check your answers for this puzzle on Geochecker.com.

You are looking for a 0.33L waterproof container inside a black groundsheet bag. Parking is available at N 51 27.(H)(H+D)(F) W 02 06.(E)(G)(D).

You don't need to go too far into the bush to get the cache. It can be accessed from the path.

Congratulations to tubachick for FTF!
Happy hunting!
