The View and Boulders
Train and Tower
The cache is located on Columbia Siding Road just south of Rock
Island dam. I picked this location for several reasons:
1) Nice view of the Columbia River
2) Large boulder field. They appear to be lava boulders of
basalt.
3) A tower near the bank of the river with a cable that crosses
the river. If anyone knows the purpose of this tower and cable
system please let me know. When I first saw it I was thinking, "Why
is a Fire Lookout located here?" But then examining it more
closely, I could see the cable. The enclosure on top of the tower
must be the housing for a winch.
Anyway, the location has something for everyone. View (The River
and Valley), Geology (The Boulders), and History (The Tower and
Cable).
Please be discreet when caching here. I tried to hide the cache
out of the view of nearby homes.
