Geocache Description:

This is the 5th Geocache in a series called “Cache to Eagle” which highlights Eagle Service Projects by the Boy Scouts of the Chief Seattle Council. This cache is in the Mt. Olympus district.

Reaching the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America requires years of dedication and hard work. In addition to 21 required merit badges, each Scout must complete a project that – on average – requires 167 service hours. In 2008 alone, that translated to $16 million in service (based on national volunteer hour value of $19.51/hr).

This cache is part of a nationwide geocaching series called “Cache to Eagle” that showcases these special contributions. A Boy Scout can find three of these "Cache to Eagle" caches to satisfy requirement 8(a) for the new Geocaching Merit Badge.

This particular Eagle Scout project was the construction of an informational kiosk for the Sequim Dog Park in Carey Blake Park. It was built by Alexander Skinner of Troop 90, chartered by the Sequim Rotary. Troop 90 was founded in 1925 and has been active has been active for 85 years. Visit the troop website for more info.

The cache is NOT in the dog park, but close by in a wooded area. Please be stealthy and hide the cache better than found.

Over its first 100 years, Scouting has provided millions of hours of service to communities across America. For our 100th Anniversary, we’re celebrating that legacy with special service opportunities through “A Year of Celebration, A Century of Making a Difference.” To learn more, visit 100 Years of Scouting.

You can earn the Cache to Eagle patch by finding all 12 Chief Seattle Council's “Cache to Eagle” geocaches. In each Cache to Eagle cache is a point of the Scout Law. When you find all twelve caches, email the list of cache numbers and points of the Scout Law (e.g. Cache #1, Friendly, Cache #2, Reverent, etc.), to CSC Geocaching and you will receive Cache to Eagle patch. Don’t forget to send us your mailing address. Visit the Chief Seattle Council - 100th Anniversary Geocaching website for more details and list of the other Cache to Eagle cache locations.
