Geocache Description:

A quick cache and dash that fits into the "Two Degrees West" series, started by The Chens and slowly growing across the country

Having visited the most southerly geocache in this set, and realising that the line passes through my home town, I decided it was time to add to the series.

This cache is best found on foot or bike, as the nearest parking is some distance away. It is alongside the busy Broadstone Way; please do use the pavement, and take great care if needing to cross the road. The location is certainly wheelchair accessible, though help might be needed to retrieve the container.
There is no room in the container for swops; you will need to bring something to write with.

Updated information: Having initially been magnetic, and then losing its magnet, this one has now become magnetic again! Hopefully this time it will survive a little longer; please help this by replacing it carefully and make sure that it is left upside down (you will see what I mean!)

The line of longitude, 2°W, is the only line of longitude that coincides exactly with one of the lines of the Ordnance Survey National Grid. It's line 400000 of the National Grid, also known as the Central Meridian, for those who like to know these things. It also runs the entire length of England: from just outside Berwick-upon-Tweed on the north-east coast to a couple of miles south-west of Swanage on the south coast - a total of 359 miles.
The author and television presenter, Nicholas Crane, whom you may have seen on BBC's 'Coast', once walked the whole line from north to south. He allowed himself a margin of just one grid square either side of the line. After the walk he wrote a very readable book called "Two Degrees West" which describes his escapades. The book is now out of print, but still available from second hand dealers.
